Vo Po....

This post is for my dear grandad: Brazil... better known as Vo Po...
We always had the best of relationships, he being more like an amazing older brother, with all the patience in the world. Love him, miss him every day.

Wish I could have had more time with him...But have to be happy about the amazing times I've had with him.

Thinking of you....always...

My genealogy...

Watching "Faces of America" and "Who do you think you are" on TV made me think a lot about my ancestors... I really would like to go all the way and try to find as many clues as I can and get as much info about my ancestors as I can.

Of course, my family did not keep a lot of records and things get lost during all these years. Being from Brazil, I cannot really use ancestry.com. This awesome site is only for people with ancestors here in the US.

Fortunately I am starting to gather some info... Stay tuned for more.

But in the meantime, some pictures from my great-grandparents (the grandparents of my mom): Rodolpho Ramos and Gasparina Carrascosa.
He was a colonel in the Sao Paulo's Forca Publica. Went after the Coluna Prestes (Brazilian commies) and fought against the other states in our little local civil war: the 1932 Revolution. Sao Paulo (the richest state then and the richest still) wanted to separate from Brazil (not a bad idea), but this effort was quite unsuccessfull...
My great grandad was demoted from colonel to lieutenant-colonel and that was it...

Here are their portraits:

Rodolpho Ramos

Gasparina Carrascosa who came from the South of Spain and  managed to have 11 children. I would have liked to meet them. Cannot imagine how their lives were in the beginning of the century.
I will try to dig deeper and post more things...

Express Boyfriend Blazer

Having one of those famous discount coupons from Express (they send me like a ton of those) definitively helps...

This is definitively a key piece. You can dress it up or down. A classic.

My favorites : Elis Regina

If you ask me, who is the best singer ever... I would say Elis Regina... Yes, that's it. Unfortunately, she isn't a household name outside of Brazil, but, believe me her voice was pure crystal. No one, no one can get close. Her daughter, Maria Rita has the genes, is trying, but in my opinion, not getting even close!

Such a shame that someone so awesome died so young... ***sigh***

She would have been 65 years old this past week! Still young. Miss you, darling!

Love you Elis.

So sad...

I was so saddened by discovering that a favorite cartoonist of mine was murdered yesterday... another senseless death.
Glauco probably wasn't known outside of my native Brazil, but his cartoons were favorites of mine in the 80's and 90's... I used to clip them out of the newspapers and paste them in many scrapbooks. I still have them...

So sad , rest in peace my friend...

Here are his most famous characters... Doy George, Geraldao, Geraldinho, Dona Marta and the best of them:
Casal Neuras - the funniest neurotic couple.

The look for less!!! The DKNY wrap cardigan!

Saw this on a magazine...

LOVE the versatility! I've bougth one at DKNY years and years ago, and this is still in the market .

Have one in camel, but wanted another one in a more vivid color (wanted to scape from black -how many black garments can a girl have???).

So, decided to take a peek at dkny.com...

Gorgeous cardigan, but at $195.00 bucks... hmmm cool cardigan, price, not that much...

sooooo... researching around the internetZ, found this BEAUTIFUL alternative from famous Victoria's Secret:

and it cost guess what: $29 bucks!!!! The Brazilian beauty (Alessandra Ambrosio) also helps, huh? Got this exact color...

So many possibilities with this cardigan. This is the true look for less.

Just received it! Surprise, surprise: the Victoria's Secret one is gorgeous! I cannot tell the difference from the DKNY one... By the way, Donna Karan cannot be too happy about this!!!
