My "newest" old book: The Works of Hanna More from 1801!

_____

How would I buy, and receive a 210 year old book without this little wonderful thing called the internet...

Just received this little gem from 1801: "The Works of Hannah More".

I really have never heard of Hannah More before, but doing some internet research (again my friend, the internet!) discovered that Hannah More (February 2, 1745 – September 7, 1833) was an English religious writer, and philanthropist. She can be said to have made three reputations in the course of her long life: as a poet and playwright in the circle of Johnson, Reynolds and Garrick, as a writer on moral and religious subjects, and as a practical philanthropist.

The thing is that I cannot believe that I've just received a 210 year old book, a book that went through innumerable hands all through these centuries for under eleven dollars... ELEVEN dollars
with shipping mind you!!!

Just browsed it a little, besides fixing the falling front cover, and this book seems like a very interesting read: the basics on educating a woman in the late 1700's to the early 1800's. Just am curious on how much anyone would be willing to educate their daughters in those days.

This is what some of these young ladies were wearing in 1801:

Fashions of 1801.

More 1801 ladies... Very Jane Austen!

Can you imagine who has touched this book? How many houses has it been? Something like that always fascinates me...

New York in the snow. Then and now

______________________________________________________________________________________

I simply love to travel in time and at this wonderful website called Retronaut makes it all possible!
Cannot recommend this site enough. Made for people like me! People who like to travel in time from the comfort of the 21st century that is!

Just saw this post and had to share a picture my husband took from the same area, with a 95 year difference...

New York in the snow in 1905.

The Flatiron is one of my favorite buildings ever! I am very fortunate to walk around it every day on my way to work!

Still in love with All Saints Spitalfields: Fierce top!

I simply LOVE that store... Their clothes are so me: a modern steampunk Victorian... If I could, I would buy everything in there.

So, I did have a friend visiting NY and I went with her to this temple of doom. I did resist and did NOT buy the above top at the time while mt friend actually did.
This cool t-shirt was on my my for some days before I decided to get it!
On my lunch break, I did get the subway and went all the way to their awesome Meatpacking store.
Unfortunately, everybody had the same idea and the smaller sizes of this shirt were sold out (it runs really big).
So, thank God for the interwebs! I've managed to get me a smaller size before it was completely sold out!
Ferosh, fierce clothing! Yeaaah!!

One more scarf for my collection!!!

******

A cute scarf with little birds... Who can resist? It can give a major pop in any basic outfit.
Looking forward to wearing it!

Belated post - Old Navy Military Jacket

Cute for those in-between days... And I did pay less than the above sales price! Just 50 bucks!!!
Yay again

Large Calf Girl and Boot Shopping

Yeah, my legs are kind of thick... At least for the people who design the average boots in this world...

I love tall boots, but shopping for them can be very challenging...
I usually have a very hard time finding one that zips all the way to the top.

Then I saw this one at Aerosoles and thought that it could work!

Someone from Aerosoles had a brilliant idea of adding a second zipper on this boot, so it adjusts to your leg! Brilliant indeed!

Fairly stylish and comfy - just cannot deal with heels with the amount of walking in NYC's sidewalks!
Been wearing it a lot and even getting some compliments ;-)

Dearly Departed... My Chanel Sandals were sold!!!

Some years ago, I was wandering alone in Soho during one of my summer Fridays.
Then did enter Chanel and saw that they had a sale and to my surprise, saw that these beautiful and classic sandals with the interlocking CCs were marked down to like $100! Affordable for Chanel, huh?

Didn't even think twice and bought them. Thought that they were meant to last forever, that I would have many seasons of happy fashionable walks...

Boy, I was mistaken... Sad, but suffering for fashion has its limits...
The sandals gave major blisters, the strap was too small for the tip of my feet and I really ended up almost dying if I had to walk more than 5 blocks.
So not practical...

Decided to sell and I am discovering that anything Chanel is like gold. Sells like crazy!  And did sell it for slightly more than I paid, awesome, non?

Adieu darling, hope you give some happiness and hopefully not blisters to your new owner!!!

My new Forever 21 jacket

Gorge, non?
Looks more expensive than just 35 bucks...

All Saints Spitalfields, my birthday gifts!!!

-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-
Saw this store when I went to Paris last year and thought it was AMAZING....

Paris store we've stumbled upon:

Ended up not buying anything - the prices were in British pounds and they were HIGH.
Shortly after, they did open a store in NYC, in the Meatpacking area.

A view from the store. So chic and with a mix of Victorian/Mad Max vibe.
Or as The New York Times calls it  "The Romance of Jack the Ripper"

Went there on my birthday week and got some AMAZING things as gifts:

When I saw this, I had to have it... They have the coolest prints...

And to top this this WONDERFUL (and heavy) necklace:

I am loving this soooo much!!!

And the Missoni for Target Madness continues!!!!

As you've probably seen, I became a true Missoni for Target maniac...

In my mad rush (that btw paid off, since I did receive EVERYTHING I've ordered, to the contrary of many people) to get my apparel choices, I've totally neglected the home goods. And of course, I wasn't able to access their website again during the whole day on September 13th, when I could log in again at target.com, almost everything was sold out. Of course...

Then, I did start salivating at the items on Ebay...
After much thought, and not very happy that these Missoni scalpers are making a great profit, I could not resist and decided to snag the cutest chevron towels...

I've heard that they are amazing for the price.... So I did a major shoulder shrug and paid the inflated prices (more than double... *sigh*) for two bath towels and one hand towel...

They even have the orange Missoni label, how chic is that? Huh?

Looooove the pattern and the striped trim. Sooo cute!
Well, in reference to paying more than double of their Target price, I did rationalize the fact that if taken care properly, they can last forever and will be a major decorative element to a mostly black and white bathroom! AND as if this wasn't enough, my parents are coming to visit, so there!

Will post more pictures as soon as I get them!!!!

My Missoni for Target loot !!! The update...

Ok, I am officially obsessed !!! My friends/hubby/family cannot even hear me talking more about this Missoni collab...

But... I am continuing to ramble here in my blog, ok?

So. to sum the adventure, I was a little bit worried about actually not receiving my orders... Heard about some crazy cases and was panicking that I would be able to get all my items (see the ones I've picked here).

My orders were in fact ok!!! The zig zag blue sweater was the first one!!! That was the only one that was left in my shopping cart before the website crashed early in the morning.
Then the pink scarf and just this week, I did get my golden cardi! (And of course my gold infinity scarf, but that was Ebay! Actually I was having more faith on Ebay that Target!!!).

This was the last Target shipment: the gold cardi!!!

Nice background, no? Ok, you probably think I am nuts... But there is no harm in having some fun, amirite? LOL

Here's the result of Missoni throwing up on my closet !!!!

Very impressed with the quality of the golden scarf, golden cardi and the blue sweater... The pink scarf was ok I guess, especially for $25...

I think I will have many, many happy years with those things...

Ciao amici!!!  ;-)

My Gorgeous Turquoise Necklace!

******

Was eyeing this at the Lucky Brand Jeans store for quite a while...

Gorge, no?
The stones are amazing and 3 rows of them... I was really looking for one like this...

The beauty was: online it was still $65, but Lulu paid only $29.99!!!! YAY!!! Sale is always good...
Quite a statement piece for half the price!!! I am happy!

Missoni for Target? Bring on the CRAZY

Nowadays, the collaborations between major fashion houses and big box retailers and also cheaper clothing stores like H&M are getting very common place, but wait: not really common place enough.

The Missoni for Target collab was the craziest thing ever. Making me, yes yours truly completely obsessed... And i was obviously not the only one!!!
Could not think about anything else for weeks: anticipating the September 13th opening of the collection, being able to buy the items despite of the web crashes and then subsequent e-mails saying that the items' shipping was delayed (uh-oh) and then that they were finally shipped... Geez.

Was obviously waiting to see if the items I've managed to snag would get safely to my hands... So I did write this post earlier, but had to see the items to believe I was getting them...

Well, target did a MAJOR PR/advertising campaign for this latest collab and obviously did not prepare itself for this tsunami of people trying to get their hands on anything Missoni.

Long story short, the demand was so crazy that Target's website CRASHED for almost the whole day of launching!

I did wake up earlier than usual (7:30am), EVERYTHING LOOKED NORMAL, was putting a bunch of things in my virtual shopping cart and then BOOM!
The website stalled and I COULD NOT CHECKOUT!

After some refreshes, I did get this screen:

Got so angry!!! Had to rush to get dressed and go to work completely crestfallen...

By then, I did get to work and tried the site MANY times and nothing...

Even The New York Times and CNN reported on the madness!
I've particularly liked this:

"But on Twitter and other social media sites, thwarted shoppers posted furious messages and commiserated about the site’s failure, with a few bragging that they had made it through in the brief periods that Target.com was working."

Yep that was me! I don't know HOW, but I DID manage to "enter" the website for a BRIEF period that it was working and managed to get the sweater I wanted (all of the other items I've put on my cart were already gone).

Check it out:

HAD TO RUSH and do the checkout for only this one - did not want to have this cutie sitting in my cart and lose this once again. Missed the free shipping opp, but hey who cares...

Well, since the website was STILL working, I just ran and got two other items:

Cute, but not my original color - the blue/brown one was completely gone by then... I do have a REAL Missoni scarf in pink tones, but this one is kinda different from mine... So to the cart it went.

Looks cute overall in an outfit:

And this scarf was like 25 bucks. Way better than a regular Missoni for more than $150 (see below):

Aren't they crazy similar? This one above is from Zappos and it was marked down from like 200. So I did manage to get a Missoni scarf for a tenth of the price!!!

As the website was still working (don't ask me how) at roughly 10:30 am, I did manage to get the sweater I really wanted:

Cute or what? I does have gold threads woven all over it. Looks way more than the $49.99 I've paid...

*Exhaling* . Did feel a little better because I did get some of these things (had order numbers and confirmation e-mails and all) before the website crashed for good that September 13th!!!!

Was worried that my items would never come, maybe they would get canceled - saw some people complaining at Racked.com...

You know what, after all of this I did still get very disappointed with Target. I've had a better image from them. That they could handle all this traffic and also impose a quantity limit so these morons cannot buy everything and sell for super crazy prices on Ebay. Racked is reporting that there are more than 21 THOUSAND Missoni for Target items on Ebay. This is ridic.

Note the Harrison Ford "bonus" shot (haha).

I did NOT want to reward those Ebay unscrupulous sellers, but the infinity scarf I did miss at the site spoke louder...

It is gorgeous and matches my sweater! I really did not see this one at the site on the brief window that the site was actually working. Saw it later, when it was already sold out...

Paid only 20 bucks more than the $24.99 price tag. Not bad...

Now (drumroll): this is me modeling my fresh out of the box Missoni loot!!!

The golden infinity scarf is WAY beyond my expectations... Has a gold thread all over and shines! The quality is amazing, not itchy at all. Super soft... LOVED IT!!!

The cardigan is also amazing! Thought it would be too busy, but no. Just loved it!
I am just wondering if I should have ordered the size M... Now it is too late. I don't think it is too snug...

Now I am just waiting for my gold cardi and the pink long scarf... Will post them as soon as I get them!
Ciao bella!!!
