How would I buy, and receive a 210 year old book without this little wonderful thing called the internet...
Just received this little gem from 1801: "The Works of Hannah More".
I really have never heard of Hannah More before, but doing some internet research (again my friend, the internet!) discovered that
Hannah More (February 2, 1745 – September 7, 1833) was an English religious writer, and philanthropist. She can be said to have made three reputations in the course of her long life: as a poet and playwright in the circle of
Johnson,
Reynolds and
Garrick, as a writer on moral and religious subjects, and as a practical
philanthropist.
The thing is that I cannot believe that I've just received a 210 year old book, a book that went through innumerable hands all through these centuries for under eleven dollars... ELEVEN dollars
with shipping mind you!!!
Just browsed it a little, besides fixing the falling front cover, and this book seems like a very interesting read: the basics on educating a woman in the late 1700's to the early 1800's. Just am curious on how much anyone would be willing to educate their daughters in those days.
